Unfortunately, we were one of the many families along the Mississippi Gulf Coast that were seriously affected by Hurricane Katrina. Why yes, I did say Mississippi, can you believe it? OK, so I'm a bit bitter about the fact that any/all media attention about the storm has been focused on New Orleans and the people that refuse to be responsible for themsevles instead of giving any attention to those of us in other areas (including parts of Louisiana) that were affected as much or worse. You know, those of us that have taken it upon ourselves to try to get our lives back in order? The ones that didn't sit around and wait for someone else to feed us or bring us to safety? Yeah, us.

Wait, where was I? Oh, right... Our house was all but destroyed by the storm surge. There was between 5 to 6 feet of water in the different areas of our home, knocking down entire walls, blowing out windows, and ruining so much what we owned. We did get there as soon as we could after the storm and collected alot. We wouldn't have nearly as much as we do if my amazing family hadn't gone there before we even managed to make it back to the coast and begun collecting things for us. We STILL have a pile of things needing to be cleaned and put away, but we're working on it. Fortunately, I always take my photos and home videos with me any time we evacuate, and my kitties are NEVER left behind.

There is a video of what our house looked like immediately after the storm, if you're interested. Video Here.
